Working Towards a Better Tomorrow
Consumers Against Deceptive Fees works tirelessly to make sure utility bills are consistent, reasonable and fair to consumers. While we are a statewide organization, we are currently largely focused on Cleveland Public Power’s billing practices and rate structure.
Cleveland Public Power has not raised their base rates in decades, leaving the impression that residential consumers have not had an increase in costs. However, a little known add-on charge called the Energy Adjustment Fee is being used to inflate costs to consumers, sometimes even doubling a monthly bill. There is no oversight of how that Fee is set or if it is the same for all residents. Further, Cleveland Public Power treats businesses differently than residents, often charging less for businesses than to the residents of Cleveland.
It is time that the City of Cleveland and Cleveland Public Power be clear with residents regarding how much they are paying for electricity, what is included in the Energy Adjustment Fee and for City Council to hold CPP officials accountable by holding hearings about the overall rate structure. Anything less than open and transparent fees and rates is not acceptable.
